S P Setia steps up northern Penang push with 40.5ha Heritage Park
KUALA LUMPUR: S P Setia Bhd is stepping up its presence in northern Penang, almost a decade after acquiring more than 684 hectares in Bertam, Kepala Batas, with the launch of a new public park aimed at strengthening the appeal of its Setia Fontaines township.
The developer has launched Setia Fontaines Heritage Park, a 40.5-hectare recreational and community space within the township, as it seeks to deepen the development's role as a destination for residents and visitors in Seberang Perai Utara.
The park forms part of S P Setia's broader placemaking strategy, which includes a 25.5-hectare man-made lake and musical fountain, designed to provide recreational, wellness and community spaces within the township.
Penang State Executive Councillor for Tourism and Creative Economy Wong Hon Wai said the development could contribute to the broader socio-economic growth of Kepala Batas and the northern Seberang Perai region.
He said the initiative demonstrated the role of private-sector investment in creating sustainable communities, strengthening local economies and supporting Penang's longer-term development objectives.
The effort not only enhances the value and appeal of Setia Fontaines as a premier township development but also contributes meaningfully to the broader socio-economic growth and development of Kepala Batas and the Northern Seberang Perai region, Wong said.
The launch was attended by Tun Ramli Ngah Talib, Toh Puan Noora Ashikin Raja Abdullah, state representatives, government agencies, strategic partners, residents and members of the public.
S P Setia president and chief executive officer Datuk Zaini Yusoff said the launch underscored the company's long-term commitment to Penang and its approach of developing townships around community, public spaces and shared experiences.
"Setia Fontaines Heritage Park represents our continued commitment to building beyond homes. Through thoughtful placemaking, green public spaces and community-led experiences, we are shaping Setia Fontaines into an integrated township that contributes to Penang's growth while creating long-term value for residents, visitors and the wider community," he said.
Zaini said the Heritage Park is envisioned as more than a township amenity but as a new lifestyle and recreational attraction with the potential to support visitation, public engagement and destination appeal for Seberang Perai Utara and the wider northern region.
The launch was accompanied by the Jom Mai Setia Fontaines Carnival, featuring family and community activities, Malaysia Day programmes, cultural and entertainment performances, as well as tourism-related activations.
The programme was supported by strategic collaborations with Tourism Malaysia, Penang Global Tourism, Maybank and other partners, reinforcing the developer's efforts to position Setia Fontaines as a broader community and lifestyle destination.
