Pulau Poh Hotel in Terengganu set for Q3 opening after years of delays
KUALA LUMPUR: The long-delayed three-star Pulau Poh Hotel in Tasik Kenyir is finally set to begin operations in the third quarter (Q3) of this year, marking the culmination of a project that has been in the making since 2017.
The project has faced multiple setbacks over the years, with construction and opening timelines repeatedly pushed back, most notably during the Covid-19 pandemic which disrupted Malaysia's broader tourism and construction sectors.
Despite the delays, the upcoming opening is expected to significantly enhance Terengganu's hospitality capacity while stimulating economic activity around Tasik Kenyir, one of the country's largest man-made lakes and a key eco-tourism destination.

Developed at a cost of RM97.4 million, the 150-room property is a key hospitality asset in the Tasik Kenyir tourism corridor. The hotel is also equipped with six meeting rooms and a convention hall capable of accommodating up to 1,000 guests, positioning it as a potential hub for conferences and events in the East Coast destination.
Terengganu Inc Sdn Bhd president and group chief executive officer Datuk Burhanuddin Hilmi Mohamed @ Harun said the long-awaited project is now ready to support the state's broader tourism growth strategy, particularly in strengthening Tasik Kenyir's appeal as both a leisure and MICE (meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions) destination.
"Following the eleventh-hour withdrawal of the original hotel operator in mid-February, Terengganu Inc has been mandated to manage the property. A strategic approach will be taken by leveraging the management experience and expertise of Primula Beach Hotel and Permai Hotel to facilitate operational planning," he said today, according to Bernama.
With Kenyir Geopark recording more than 360,240 visitors from Jan 1 to November 2025, Burhanuddin expressed confidence that the hotel's opening will act as a catalyst for local economic growth and further elevate Tasik Kenyir's profile as a premier national tourism destination.
He added that the hotel is also expected to serve as the preferred accommodation hub for professionals and delegations involved in the floating solar project, a joint venture between TNB Genco and Terengganu Inc, reinforcing its role beyond tourism into supporting emerging green energy initiatives in the region.
